Hello folks,
Well, summer is nearly upon us. . .this is when the real HARDCORE weed
wackers come out of the woodwork :)
This past Saturday we had quite a showing with 22 volunteers on deck! It
was quite a variable bunch, with Cub Scout Pack 727 on board ,and Ray Cruz
with his invention "The Weed Twister". We managed to remove 43 bags of
nasty buffelgrass from a hill top near the Hope Camp trailhead. Phew! Nice
work everybody! There is plenty of work to do there yet, so we will be
heading back to this spot for our next monthly matchup.
We will be working on Saturday June 14th, but here is the kicker: we will
be starting at 6 o'clock in the morning so we can beat the heat!!! Now I
know this sounds early, but just think how lovely it will be that time of
day, the cool nightime temperatures just taking leave and the desert
critters crawling out of there beds. . . beautiful!
Saturday June 14th, 6:00 - 10:00 am
Meet at the Rincon Mountain District of Saguaro National Park
@ the Visitor Center
As always, we will supply tools and gloves for participants, but we ask that
folks dress appropriately for field work in high temperatures (i.e. sun
protection, field pants, and long sleeves are always a good idea). Bring
PLENTY OF WATER!!! We will have some bottled water back at the vehicle, but
this is the time of year when we need to realize that the temps are up and
we are becoming dehydrated much faster! I would reccommend no less than 2
liters per person, just to be on the safe side. We will be working for
approximately 4 hours, and then we will reconvene behind the Resources
Office Building for some snacks if anyone would care to join.
I hope to see you there! It should be a blast. Please contact me if you
have any questions regarding the upcoming event, and I will see you in a
month!
