There will be an additional volunteer event held in the western district of
Saguaro NP on Dec. 29th for anyone interested in assisting. We will be
working in King's Canyon with the West Side Weed Wackers (geez, we need a
catchy name like that!) to remove some buffel and fountain grass that thinks
it is welcome there! Little does it know. . .
We will be assembling at the King's Canyon Trailhead, across the way and up
the road from the Sonoran Desert Museum, at 8:00am. It is anticipated that
we will work until approximately 11:00am.
So that's: December 29th, 2007

Hope to see you there, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

Our next event is scheduled for January 12th at 8:00am. We will be meeting
at the Visitor Center of the Rincon Mountain District (eastside) here at
Saguaro National Park . Please park in the administrative parking lot (1st
right after entering the park, follow the road a short distance to the
circular lot in front of a small "house" and then walk the path to the
Visitor Center). It is highly recommended that you wear long pants, sturdy
shoes, a long sleeved shirt, and sun protection (as well as any other gear
needed to protect you from the applicable elements). The Park will provide
all the necessary tools, including gloves for those who do not have them.
We will continue to work in the drainage beyond the Javelina Picnic Area on
the Cactus Forest Drive.
This month we will be joined by the Cactus Rangers (!), a Park affiliated
group of environmentally curious youngsters, ages 13-15. Our event will
begin with a brief introduction to the problem of exotic species, and then
more specifically buffelgrass, after which we will proceed with work as
always.
We have been summing up the day by sharing snacks at the picnic area, so if
you have a favorite goody you want to share with the group, please feel free
to contribute!
