Notes: Come hear Tempe’s “water historian” as he relates the history of
the Salt River Valley’s oldest municipal water system. The author of a
soon-to-be-published history of water in Tempe, Dr. Pry will provide us
with an entertaining look back at the century-long relationship between
Tempeans and their water—and use that history to explore some critical
contemporary issues relating to water in the Sonoran Desert.

Topics to be discussed include the sources of Tempe’s water and how they
have changed over time, the relationship between irrigation and municipal
water systems, the role of groundwater and surface water in the city’s
water supply, the Salt River Project and Central Arizona Project, and
water reclamation and conservation.
