At this point you will not see any new growth on the dead branches and they
should be removed. The new growth on the trunk will continue to grow and
leaf out more. If you can visualize how the tree will look after a few
years with the new growth from the trunk and you are okay with that, you
could just let it grow. Otherwise you might consider removing the trees.
