I was wondering if you might be able to help out with my landscaping problem. We live in Phoenix and are getting ready to landscape our backyard near the pool. On the north side of the pool we have app. 3ftwideX33ft long. The 3ft planting spot is right between the block wall and the pool deck concrete. I would love to create a tropical look there, full palms, maybe 7ft high but am afraid that their root system may interfere with the concrete. I do not like the queen or king palms, to high with a skinny trunk.I would also like to add some color in between. Could you suggest anything that (palms/color) would fit the bill, and thrive in full sun?
What about filling in the 3ft. with concrete and building a huge planter box that could now extend 5ft (2 ft onto deck) would the plantings be able to grow properly?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
